The team prepared the car for a practice session at Winchester Speedway, in order, to shake down the car since we are beginning this season in a newer Viper chassis. They bled brakes and were ready to race. In heat races, Mitch looked great. He was really showing his true racing abilities. He started in 4th position passing two cars to finish 2nd. Mitch said, “This car has lots of drive and side bite. It is the best car right out of the box, I have ever driven.” However, the team realized they had a problem with the brakes. It seems the master cylinder was leaking down on his feet in the cockpit causing it to be slippery. The team changed the covers on the master cylinder hoping this would solve the brake issue before the feature. Mitch started in 2nd position for the feature in the limited late model division. During the first few laps, there were many cautions. But Mitch was holding his position until around lap 5 when he started losing spots. At this point, he was holding his feet up to race because the leak had not been fixed as we had thought which made the floor board too slick. Mitch dropped back to 5th before finally deciding it was no longer safe to continue and pulled off on Lap 9. His finishing position was 18th place. Mitch said, “If I didn’t have brake problems, I really would have had something for the boys.” The team will make minor sheet metal repairs and fix the brakes. We will also fully letter the car before the Steel Block Bandits season opener at The Rock Speedway in Cumberland, MD on April 9 & 10. ........................................................
